My closest dealer has a Black Focus RS in production at the factory as we speak which isn’t spoken for and they have an open order for the next. Since I’m wanting Stealth Grey (I grew up with black paint...NEVER AGAIN!), RS2 Package, and the factory winter tires/rims I’m going for the order. So far they are just charging sticker. Nice of them.

On a semi-related note, I got an email saying “Finally, the New Ford Truck Dealers you’ve been waiting for!”...yeah...finally. Thanks automated Ford Marketing.

I have my doubts about this car. Tune-ability may be an issue and I know that I would get itchy pretty quickly.

My dealership phoned me to say if I ordered a month earlier than I wanted they would take some money of. On the day I asked if they would take any more off and in total got Ł4,000 taken off the price of the Ł25,000 car. Was in and out the dealership in 30 minutes.

Sold it the week BMW said they were at least doubling production last year. The market dropped out of the bottom the following month. My dealer bought it back for $2k off the MSRP I paid with 5k miles and 6 months later because they didn’t have any in stock and the sales manager must not have heard about the production jump, (they don’t sell new cars over sticker out of principle but mine was used and all bets off). Long story short, they now have 6 in stock sitting on the outside lot and won’t return my calls/emails about a M2...probably because they had to sell mine at a loss when they got 5 build slots the next month when they had originally been told to expect 1-2 cars a year.

Bought the SVR 3 weeks later. Which ironically is ending up being rarer than BMW even made the i8 seem like it was going to be. There are between 5-10 used SVRs in the US and 29 new, so with Land Rover’s fairly strict policy of avoiding sales outside of a radius of the dealership, if your local dealer has already sold the one SVR they are getting this year, you have to rely on the used market...which is why used SVRs are going for over sticker, regardless of mileage. If you can’t get a new local, you HAVE to go used nationally. For comparison, there are currently over 800 i8s sitting on dealer lots and that number has been increasing by 100 every month for half a year.

I really thought I might buy an M2 for the fiance’ to drive (an excuse) but when all the glowing praise for the RS starting coming out I decided to trade the Fiesta ST. A pleasant side effect to most of my cars being manual is that she pulled be aside the other day and said it was about time she learned to drive stick and that she’d love to use the Fiesta and then the RS to drive to work until she gets going with her job and can afford to pay for her own current-gen Escalade. She’s doing great with highway and rural roads. We’re working on hill starts and creeping traffic next week.

Oh, you’re in Europe. Yeah, ours are arriving soon. Where this dealer is so rural, I might get some off as well. They don’t know what they’re dealing with because the local market for a $41k Focus RS isn’t there.

It shares an engine with the EB mustang and people have done some ridiculous things with those, check out MAPerformance if you’re curious.

I’m guessing a lot of that stuff could be adapted pretty easily.

I’m not so worried about the engine’s reliability and tuneability; rather, whether or not the drivetrain can handle additional mods.
